Laborites Suspend Bevan Amid Party Rift in London

The British Labour Party voted 141 to 112 to withdraw the whip from Aneurin Bevan, suspending him as a parliamentary representative amid disobedience charges. The NEC will decide on expulsion next Wednesday, with a possible appeal to conference in October at Margate. Bevan’s allies claim the close vote signals Attlee weakness, as 39 MPs abstained or were absent.

Red Cross Nearing Citywide Fund Goal

The Elyria area Red Cross drive today rose to within 2300 of the 39270 goal. At 1 15 p m the fund stood at 6966425. Drive divisions exceeding quotas were industry schools national firms and public employees. Oberlin-S4500 goal was just met and residential contributions were within a few dollars of the quota.

Stocks Rise Continues In Confident Market Push

New York traders kept the market buoyant with broad gains after Tuesday's surge. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 2.93 points in the first hour, with rails up 0.84 and utilities up 0.14, while volume reached 770000 shares, near Tuesday's pace.

Zorge to coach Canton Crusaders with new stadium plan

Zorge, in a noon interview, refused to disclose his new salary but called it substantially higher than at St. Mary. The Kent State graduate resigned from St. Mary after contract disputes and will start Aug. 20 at Canton Central Catholic, joining three assistants for a revived single wing offense as the Crusaders unveil a $200,000 stadium with 12,000 seating goals. St. Mary finished strong last fall, losing 75-23 to Macadore s High School in a postseason title game.

Elyria election board reports registrations and cancellations

The Elyria Board of Elections announced 264 new registrations and 3 541 cancellations as of noon today. First Ward leads registrations with 66, followed by Fifth Ward with three. other wards show varying cancellations and registrations. Voters must be registered by 9 p.m. March 23 for the May 3 primary, with extended evening hours Mar 21 to Mar 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
