The 17th annual Lorain County Senior Girls All Star Basketball Games take place March 18 at Midview High School. Two games start at 6 p.m. with Coca-Cola presenting the 1997 Lorain County Miss Basketball Award to close the program.
The 18th annual Lorain County All-Star games occur March 26 at Lorain Admiral King High School. Two games begin at 6 p.m. Coca-Cola backs the 1997 Lorain County Mr. Basketball award presentation between games.
Becky Shaw, a 40 pound lighter challenger and fitness trainer, prepares for a three round Toughwoman bout against Green at Mug's on West 25th Street. Green, 34, hails from Mug's and defeated her semis to claim a Toughwoman belt. Shaw trains at Alta House and Parma Boxing Club and emphasizes endurance and form.
In 1975 Bert Huntley dreamed of a gateway to the rugged Lone Mountain Peak near Bozeman. Everett Kircher of Boyne USA built a world class resort, adding quad lifts and a 2800 foot gondola to access the south face. The tram opens a 360 degree panorama to Grand Tetons with a daunting vertical descent.
The 29th annual Vermilion River Canoe Race sponsored by the Keel Haulers Canoe Club will run eight miles from Roadside Park at Birmingham to Mill Hollow Park in Vermilion on Sunday March 23. There are 16 classes for canoe and kayak with divisions for men women mixed juniors over and under and masters. Prizes go to the top three in each class. Unrestricted racing-type canoes start at 10am with one-minute intervals. Spectators may watch from riverbanks and bridges. Pre race day fee is 9 with day of race 10. Registration begins at 9am. The Ohio Division of Wildlife reports the statewide deer herd grew from 125000 in 1982 to over 500000 in 1996 but condition declined overall. Zone 3 in the southeast shows weight and antler diameter drops across all age groups, with adult bucks down from 147 to 135 pounds.
