President Roosevelt renews request for 150 million dollars in additional relief funds to sustain WPA operations at near current levels through June 30. He notes no substantial improvement in unemployment since January and February messages and urges Congress to act. He warns cuts would raise rolls and harm economic recovery.
Lorain County faces a delay in testing 28 000 cattle for bovine tuberculosis and Bangs disease due to finances. Officials say $3 000 approved for this year will not cover the $5 500 cost and testing could start in November to preserve the Accredited Rating, allowing completion into 1940 with a later budget balance. Failure to retain the rating could devalue cattle by at least $10 per head, hampering shipments to Cleveland and sales outside the state.
