Order trunk lines to sell WLE stock
The Interstate Commerce Commission ruled that three large trunk lines violated the Clayton Act by purchasing the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway without approval. The commission ordered the lines to dispose of their Wheeling stock within 90 days. The B and O and New York Central have already sold their stake to the Van Sweringen interests, which seek permission to consolidate Wheeling with other holdings.

Four System Plan and Nickel Plate Wheeling Holdings
The commission said the sale reports carry no weight in the current proceeding. It suggested Nickel Plate would need to dispose of its Wheeling holdings. The trunk lines argued the Wheeling purchase was an investment, not a move to lessen competition, and urged holding Wheeling until a four system merger plan is approved.
