Seattle tops nation in traffic safety with strong enforcement
Seattle, Washington led cities of its class in traffic safety for the year, losing 38 of 301.20 deaths and posting the lowest deaths per 10 000 registered vehicles. Mayor Allan Pomeroy credits strict law enforcement and public cooperation, aided by safety programs, school campaigns, and an enforcement crackdown. Police say enhanced lighting and signals, plus audience lectures in schools, helped reduce fatalities.

State Revenue Ahead of Expectations in Ohio

Sales tax totals reached $122 million, about $21.5 million above expectations, though January and February were 10 percent below last year. If this trend persists, the state could beat last year’s records by around six to ten million. Cash balance at February end stood at $126.28 million, with net available cash of $84.85 million after appropriations. Salaries since January 1 totaled $50.31 million versus $45.00 million the prior year.
