Ohio EPA cautions South Amherst on water quality failures
Ohio EPA fined South Amherst 7,500 dollars and 18,100 dollars for failing to monitor and report drinking water content from 1996 to 2002. The plant, drawing from Buckeye Quarry, did not report nitrate and other chemicals and must abandon the facility and connect to Rural Lorain County Water Authority by January 1, 2005. Elyria man gets five years for bank robbery case
ELYRIA A Lorain man was sentenced to five years in prison for his part in the December bank robbery. Martin Goins 29 pleaded guilty February 27 to robbery and aggravated robbery. He will serve his time at Lorain Correctional Institution. Goins and Thomas Calloway 38 of Cleveland were linked to the December 16 First Merit Bank hit on South Abbe Road. Police said they approached the teller in dark clothes with hooded faces, claimed a gun, and demanded money. No gun was shown and no injuries occurred. Calloway’s case remains pending in Common Pleas Court.
