1970s push toward equality marks shift for women
A 1980 American Women’s Opinion Poll by Virginia Slims and the Roper Organization surveyed 4,011 people in late 1979. It found 64 percent of women back greater equality, up from 40 percent in 1970, with changing roles linked to more full time work and concerns about family impact. The poll notes younger, educated women led the change, while older, less educated women increasingly supported it.
