Major gas find in Columbia Township Lorain County
A new gas well on the George Alien Farm in Columbia Township, Lorain County, produced a natural flow of 6,300,000 cubic feet per day. Drilled for C. A. McMillen and associates, the well reached 2,681 feet and was completed after the drillers passed through 20 feet of gas bearing sand. The venture is the largest of four wells drilled by the group in the past year, with most interests held by Elyrians and local residents. McMillen plans more leases and another well soon.

Offer Land For Gardens In Elyria Club Seeks Plots
The Elyria Garden club reports success in securing garden plots for unemployed or part time workers to grow food for their families. Land owned by club members is being allocated by Dr. George D. A March 12 blaze in Lorain Ohio swept a historic Broadway block near Erie Avenue. The two story building, rebuilt after a 1920 tornado, suffered 50 000 to 100 000 dollars in damage as water and oil flames spread from the Roma Restaurant to nearby shops. Twenty residents woke to the fire led by Police Lieutenant Frank Bark. a 100 gallon olive oil tank exploded in the basement triggering the flames and delaying containment until daybreak.
