Avon Lake mayor removal suit tossed by judge
Lorain County Probate Court Judge James Walther dismissed a lawsuit seeking Avon Lake Mayor Mark Spaetzel’s removal. The suit, filed Feb. 24 by attorney Gerald Phillips and eight complainants, argued for Probate Court jurisdiction under an 1871 statute, but the judge ruled Avon Lake’s charter home rule supersedes that statute.
