Magnetic levitation train proposed for near quiet, vacuum tube ride

A pressurized train would run on rubber tires to 5 mph, enter a vacuum tube for reduced resistance, then be magnetically levitated above a guideway. A 586 foot test track will host a 1/15 scale model as the Federal Railroad Administration funds a feasibility study seeking a safe, smooth, pollution-free ride with the magnets and linear induction propulsion under study.

Calley trial nears verdict as testimony ends at Fort Benning

The four month murder trial of Lt William Calley Jr closes testimony as both sides prepare final arguments. If found guilty of first degree murder he faces potential death. The court has heard 57 witnesses over 46 days. The final witness was Col Oran K Henderson, brigade commander in My Lai.

The Department of Health, Education and Welfare reports seven of the 20 largest cities have over one in ten people on welfare. Boston tops at 153 percent, followed by New York 134 and Baltimore 128. U S strikes kill 600 in Laos near Sepone

UPI reports B52 bombers killed about 600 North Vietnamese troops in a 12 hour raid 10 miles southeast of Sepone Laos. The strikes destroyed large quantities of supplies and munitions while three American helicopters were shot down in heavy anti aircraft fire near Artillery Base Brown.
