Hand Mangled By Corn Husker In Accident

Lewis Spiegelberg 70 of West Ridge injured Tuesday around 4 p m when his left hand was caught in a corn husker. The limb was severely mangled and amputated. His son Russell previously lost his right arm at the elbow in a similar engine accident.

Nine Women Die In Fire At Highland Hospital North Carolina

A blaze gutted the Highland Hospital for the feeble minded in Asheville North Carolina killing nine women patients and injuring three others as firemen wrestled with chained heavy windows and a chaotic search. The building housed 29 women patients all mental cases. the fire began near the kitchen around midnight trapping many on the top floor.

Elyria Bank Debits Leap 349 Percent in Latest Month

The Federal Reserve Board of Cleveland reports Elyria shows a 349 percent rise in bank debits last month versus February last year, with a 21.3 percent three month gain. Elyria total debits reached 17.975 million last month and 60.232 million for the quarter, higher than Portsmouth Lorain, and surpassing several nearby cities. Youngstown and Columbus lead larger cities in gains while Elyria ranks 11th in percentage increase.

Twelve Killed In Crash Of Airliner

Chicago officials report a Delta DC 4 crash near Chicago Municipal Airport killed 12 of 13 aboard after the plane plummeted into a field. Two Men Hurt In Cleveland Street Mishap

Stanton Hillery aged 59 of Newark and Ronald C. Brown 37 of Newark were injured at 10:56 p m yesterday on Cleveland street near Abbe road while turning into a tavern. Hillery suffered a back injury while Brown had facial and head lacerations. both were taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital with Brown released after treatment and Hillery kept for observation. Police say Hillery will be charged with reckless driving after a westbound car driven by Robert Maine of Lenewood struck their eastbound vehicle, which then hit a parked car owned by Harold Beckiot on Drake road. snow was reported at the time.
