Soldier Zelenka’s mother discusses his disability and Walter Reed stay
Kris Zelenka described doctors initially deeming her son James Zelenka disabled, then conflicting reports on his condition after a therapist’s assessment. She recounted his attempt to put on a Velcro shoe, the hospital’s squalor controversy, and the ongoing questions about further surgery and his future assignment. She visited from Walter Reed and recalled emotional strain from the wounded’s scale, noting his right leg vein graft and debated monitoring or revision surgery.
