Joe Frazier earned a unanimous decision over Muhammad Ali in a 15 round bout. Ali suffered a swollen jaw and bruises while Frazier delivered the decisive 15th round left hook. Postfight, Ali went to hospital for jaw X rays and Frazier discussed future plans with Yank Durham.
Muhammad Ali went to a hospital with a puffed jaw after losing to Joe Frazier in a hard fought title fight. Ali’s handler Drew Brown said Ali conceded Frazier’s victory and praised him as a real champion while noting Ali planned a rematch in the future. Brown described Ali’s jaw injury occurring between rounds nine and six and quoted praise from Ali’s camp despite the defeat.
