Hospitals Win Approval for Uterine Transplant Trials
The United Network for Organ Sharing says Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston are approved for uterine transplants. A uterus donation requires family consent from a deceased donor, as with other new procedures. The Cleveland Clinic will begin with deceased donors to avoid donor risk, following a healthy woman in her 30s who died suddenly as the donor for the first transplant. Sweden has used living donors for transplants.
