Southern soybeans lag early plantings for higher yields
Yields in Florida have been developed when soybeans were planted between June 1 and 15, later than usual. Hartwig notes southern average yields rose from nine to about 15.5 bushels per acre from 193 to 1952. The national average was almost 21 bushels in 1952. Scientists anticipate improved varieties and practices will raise southern yields toward or beyond the national average.
