Indians unlikely to win more than they lose this year

Chris Assenheimer argues the Tribe faces a tough 2004 season with a thin roster, loss of key pitchers and hitters, and stronger division rivals. He says expectations should be tempered as the Indians may be a year wiser but not substantially better than Minnesota, Chicago, or Kansas City, and struggle to post a winning record.

Sabathia Impresses In First Cactus Start With Indians

CC Sabathia pitched two innings in Cleveland’s 10-8 exhibition win over Detroit and said he felt ahead of schedule. He allowed two runs on three hits and hit a Carlos Pena homer, while noting his fastball jumped out of his hand and he is getting older. Sabathia highlighted leadership by example, aiming for a healthy season with 200 innings as a goal if healthy, and stressed a steady core as the Indians look to start April strong.

Gutierrez Revives Comeback With Indians In Spring Win

Ricky Gutierrez, back from a cervical spine injury, started at third in Cleveland's 10-8 win over Detroit at Chain of Lakes Park. He went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run double, impressing manager Eric Wedge as he battles to make the roster. Milton Bradley rests with a left oblique strain while Travis Hafner switches to No. 48. Roy Smith returns to the mound on a minor league deal.
