LeSuer defends hiring of wife amid job retribution claim
Lorain Civil Service Director Ted LeSuer says attacks on his wife's provisional city job are retribution for his stance against eliminating the director's post. He notes the hiring was legal and a competitive test was not given due to workload before she was laid off. Koscho counters that LeSuer uses good government rhetoric while criticizing him. The budget hearing may address eliminating the director's job.

Councilman Opposes Corner Lot Tax Amid City Improvement Plans
Elyria’s James Levis questions a measure changing relief from street-improvement assessments. He and Robert Reichard vote against the proposal, arguing many corner businesses gain little benefit. The change would remove dual-side relief for commercial properties, leaving only residents exempt. Wickens, once a toll-free advocate, now works for Alltel's parent firm. TURN TO PAGE B-2
