Lorain St. Joseph Hospital expansion bids under review

Elyria Lorain County commissioners plan to reject bids for an 8.4 million St. Joseph Hospital expansion after irregularities were found. If rebid, construction will proceed this year, shrinking beds from 382 to 298 with a two story addition across West 20th Street.

Judge keeps Chlepciak gambling charges as felonies

Lorain County Common Pleas Court Judge Adrian Bedleski denied a defense bid to downgrade gambling charges against Elyria bail bondsman John J. Chlepciak from felonies to misdemeanors. The court ruled the fourth degree felonies stand with potential 18 month prison terms. Chlepciak, who runs JC Rail Bonding Co., was indicted after a January 26 raid on his Katina Lake Sportsman's Club in North Ridgeville.
