Buddy program links medical students and Alzheimer's patients
In Chicago 80 year old Dan Winship, a former dean and gastroenterologist, mentors first year medical student Jared Worthington in a Northwestern University buddy program for dementia. The project pairs students with patients to reduce stigma and foster care while offering patients purpose and social engagement. Worthington aims to better interact with patients and show compassion, while Winship embraces teaching despite losing memory and words.
