Ohio school funding crisis hits Elyria and state taxes
State and federal funding cuts squeeze Elyria Schools with 85 percent of the budget tied to personnel. District officials warn a 12 mill operating levy would be needed to keep doors open through 2008. Voters statewide approved less than half of over 200 school issues, signaling a broad funding crisis. Local lawmakers urge tax code reform, return lottery proceeds to schools, and review business tax breaks to protect education.
