Ohio House passes bill shifting emergency gas costs to industry

The Ohio House approved a measure to require industries to bear the cost of emergency natural gas purchases, amid GOP objections that homeowners would face higher bills. Rep. Mike Stinziano argues households should not fund up to 20 million dollars of 17 billion cubic feet bought to cut industrial curtailments. The bill seeks immediate effect and would override PUCO orders, as hearings on pricing policy loom.

Ohio House Approves Two Bills Cutting Homeowner Costs

The Ohio House backed a tax relief bill 91 to 3 to curb inflation on real estate taxes for homeowners, sending HB761 to the Senate alongside a companion measure. A separate vote, 76 to 19, approved limiting emergency natural gas costs to industrial users. The Senate also overrode Gov. Rhodes veto to raise witness fees and mileage in court cases. The tax bill would cap assessed value at 35 percent and create a Tax Appeals Court replacing the Board of Tax Appeals.

In Brussels the Common Market poll of 9,500 people 15 and older finds unmarried couples most likely to call themselves very happy. About 23 percent of unmarried cohabitors report being very happy, compared with 17 percent of married respondents. Attitudes on feminism and women’s rights are similar across genders, with half agreeing women earn less and face fewer opportunities.
