Welfare Dept to Add Three Workers and Stenographer
Probate Judge Horace H Nye announced that two more case workers and a stenographer will be hired in the county child welfare department as soon as qualified applicants are found. The county board of public assistance approved hiring to carry out investigations and a public meeting on March 16 will explain the department’s functions under new state and federal social security laws. Miss Doris Todd urged inviting municipal and school officials, teachers, clubs, PTAs, churches and other groups to the gathering. 190 cases involving 470 children currently receive aid, with monthly expenditures about 6600 dollars. The plan seeks to align relief agencies to prevent duplicate aid and ensure records meet standards to avoid losing state and federal benefits. Five Local Unions At Cleveland Are Suspended
Cleveland March 4 all local labor unions tied to the committee for industrial organization were suspended by the Cleveland Federation of Labor in a 294 to 111 vote. The five unions affected were the Amalgamated Clothing Workers International Ladies Garment Workers Amalgamated Association of Iron Steel and Tin Workers United Automobile Workers and International Textile Workers. The action follows a letter from William Green president of the American Federation of Labor urging a clear line between CIO and AFL unions. Green said the line must be drawn. About 20 000 to 25 000 workers were suspended.
