Two Texas Women Own 414 Pitchers

Beaumont residents Mrs Myrtle C. Pryor and her daughter Mrs Maude Pryor Smith boast a rare collection of 414 pitchers. Begun in 1939 with a boudoir porcelain piece, their prized items include a Rockingham pitcher from around 1890, a pre Civil War Alabama well found stoneware jug, and an opaque glass end of day pitcher. The display fills four shelf tiers in Pryor's dining room, featuring pieces from Germany, Japan, England, France, and Italy. Pryor also collects rocks and early American pressed glass, yet pitchers remain her true passion.
