Dozens of Elyria police and detectives conducted a major operation at the Wilkes Villa public housing complex on Friday night. By midnight, 10 arrests were reported as narcotics detectives watched from an undisclosed point with night vision gear and provided intel to officers. The operation drew comparisons to military tactics as Lt Dennis Will briefed the task force.
Late Friday, undercover officers probing a suspected drug deal confronted a crowd of about 50 teens near Dixon's of Elyria at 425 Broad St. The incident sparked when police questioned a youth. within minutes the group swelled to over 200, mostly black youths, fleeing as officers arrived and attempted to disperse them across Court Street and downtown parking lots.
