U S Seeks Assurances on Nicaragua Arms to El Salvador
Secretary of State Haig said the United States has received assurances from Nicaragua pledging to stop arms shipments through its territory to Salvadoran leftist rebels. Washington will review action within two weeks before deciding on further aid, amid ongoing disputes over Cuban and Nicaraguan involvement.

In Westlake 25 Bay View Hospital patients moved into the new St. John and West Shore Hospital at 29000 Center Ridge Road as the emergency department treated its first patient for a wounded ankle and delivered its first baby John Papadelis weighing 6 pounds 8 ounces to Tammie and John Papadelis of Cleveland. Executive director John Roland described a swarm of cameras and a smooth move while staff finished wiring and equipment setup and by 4 p.m. 15 people had visited the ER. The hospital plans to use about 100 beds initially of 151.
