Fallen Elyria soldier laid to rest with honors
Army Spc. Jason Cox of Elyria was buried at Brookdale Cemetery after a funeral at First Baptist Church on LaGrange Road. About 400 mourners attended as Patriot Guard riders guarded the church and gravesite. Cox, 21, was killed June 16 by an IED in Iraq after serving at Forward Operating Base Sukanya. He had planned to wed fiancee Erika Kranek after another deployment. Army officials presented his family with a long list of medals and ribbons, including the Purple Heart and Iraq Campaign Medal.
