Demjanjuk conviction upheld by appeals court
The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that federal bets decision stripping John Demjanjuk of U S citizenship and ordering deportation was supported by clear, convincing evidence that he served with the Nazi SS at Treblinka and Trawniki and misrepresented wartime activities. The court denied a new citizenship hearing and allowed deportation to the Soviet Union while rejecting a habeas corpus hearing for extradition to Israel. Demjanjuk remains imprisoned in Missouri pending further action.
