Industrial policy criticized in congressional report
A congressional staff study branded calls for a national industrial policy as trivial and misleading. The report says the economy can adapt and maintain leadership with this approach.

Restrictions May Be Eased to Allow Big Bank Mergers
Washington AP reports the Senate Banking Committee sent legislation to the Senate to ease some limits on big banks expanding via acquisitions across state lines while strengthening protections against non banking intrusions. The committee approved a bill to blur lines between banking and other businesses yet block some firms from crossing that boundary. The House Banking Committee earlier approved a narrower version focused on curbing non banking intrusions into banking. Both chambers now take up their respective bills.
