Valley City collision kills two in near miss

A crash near Valley City last night left Kenneth Leonard 19 and Mrs Kate Bender 40 dead. David W Bender 43 in poor condition and James 13 in satisfactory condition at Medina Hospital with injuries. Stuart Zacharias 41 driver of the tractor trailer suffered possible head injuries. The 8 55 p m crash occurred at Routes 252 and 303 when Bender failed to stop at 252 and collided with the south bound truck. Zacharias Excavating owner. Investigation ongoing.

Pact OKd men back at CEI Avon Lake plant

Avon Lake workers at the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. plant returned to work after 58 days of strike as Local 270 ratified a wage deal adding 17 to 25 cents per hour. The two year contract, expiring April 30 1968, allows renegotiation after one year. CEI serves Avon and Avon Lake in Lorain County and other northern Ohio counties.

Airport authority secures contract deadline for Lorain County project

Lorain County Regional Airport Authority rushes to meet a June 27 deadline to secure 100000 in state funds. The W G Lockhart Co Akron contract valu ed at 559692 was signed in Akron and delivered to Columbus December 27. Federal money pursuit continues with Muzilla preparing documents for FAA by Friday while Elyria sends nearly 187000 to enable a 576000 federal grant.

Johnson signs debt limit bill to 358 billion

Congress sends to the White House a bill raising the national debt limit to 358 billion dollars, with a temporary 336 billion ceiling expiring Friday. The measure, approved 60-30 in the Senate, clears the way for a 7 billion increase and sets 365 billion by July 1, 1968.

Lakewood Couple Dead in North Monroeville Crash

An elderly Lakewood pair, Fred Hussey and Hazel Hussey, died in a two car collision at the Rt 113 and 99 intersection. Charles Fulton and his 11 year old son survived with minor injuries. Fulton was charged with failure to yield. The Husseys were not using seat belts.

Tass reported in Havana that Soviet Premier Kosygin and Cuban Prime Minister Fidel Castro had a frank exchange of opinions on mutual issues. The Tass brief suggested disagreement by using frank, with military figures in attendance indicating subjects included defense and military matters.
