Palestinian militants escalate attacks before cease fire talks

Palestinian militants stepped up violence toward a three month truce as Palestinian officials and militia leaders discussed timing and location for announcements. Israeli PM Sharon warned that the IDF can hit terrorists anywhere. The death toll neared 2,416 Palestinians and 806 Israelis after bombings, shootings, and rocket fire.

Abductions and Attacks Surge in Iraq War Journal

Two US soldiers were abducted from an observation post north of Baghdad as American troops and helicopters scoured the desert. Across Iraq, ambushes and hostile fire killed two US soldiers and two Iraqi civilians while eight Americans were wounded amid frequent attacks. Witnesses at attack scenes provided most details as violence spiked. A U.S. special forces member was killed and eight wounded southwest of Baghdad, a Baghdad airport road bombing killed a soldier and wounded another, and a grenade attack hit a US and Iraqi convoy in west Baghdad. Two Iraqi electricity employees died in that ambush along with a U.S. soldier and Iraqi police.
