Lorain County jobless rate slips to 7.8 percent
Lorain County's unemployment fell to 7.8 percent last month, the lowest since 5.7 percent in November. About 9,200 of 118,100 in the civilian labor force were unemployed, down from 10,700 in April. Seasonal gains in construction and retail, plus recalls at Ford Lorain, Avon Lake, and Elyria plants, helped offset losses in metals and machinery. The rate remains well above May 1974's 3.5 percent. June may rise with new entrants, summer unlikely to bring big changes.
