Ford Names Richardson as Brownhelm Plant Manager

Joseph A. Richardson, native of Illinois, appointed plant manager for Ford's new Brownhelm Township assembly plant. He will establish an executive staff in Dearborn and move to temporary headquarters near Lorain this year. The $1.5 million facility, under construction 16 months, opens in summer 1958 with about 2 500 workers and two shift capacity for 960 vehicles daily. Richardson has worked at Ford since 1948, most recently as acting plant manager at Kansas City.

Court upholds passport rule for communist ties

The U S Court of Appeals ruled five to two that the State Department may require a non communist affidavit from passport applicants with past or present communist affiliations. The ruling limits the secretary of state’s discretion and allows denial for admitted present ties or where travel could involve the United States in international communism concerns.

Crossing To Get Flasher Lights

Butler county railroad crossing near Hamilton Trenton Road to receive automatic flasher lights within three months by order of the State Public Utility Commission. Six people died in a June 28 1956 train truck collision at the crossing and two more perished January 16 1952 in another crash.

Miners Rescued After Auger Bore Breaks Through

Five entombed miners trapped in a rural West of Pittsburgh district near Steuben were rescued by a giant auger mining machine. The crew surfaced at 10:50 p.m. EDT after the shaft feeding air collapsed, but the continuous boring rig freed them from a deep chamber. Kenneth Hamilton and four others emerged uninjured to cheers from families and rescuers.

Asiatic Flu Case Found in Ohio First Confirmed Case

In Columbus the State Health Department lab confirms a Cleveland airman has Asiatic Flu or Asian flu the first such case in Ohio.
