Remembering a Life Army SSG James Hunter honored at Firelands High
Funeral services for Army Staff Sgt. James Hunter, 2003 Firelands graduate, drew 300+ mourners at Firelands High School Friday. He died June 18 in Kandahar Afghanistan after his patrol unit hit an IED, one of two soldiers killed. A second service will bury him in Lexington Kentucky near his father.

Elyria man faces animal abuse charges
A 28 year old Elyria man named Charles Craige is charged with cruelty to animals attempted destruction of an animal and two counts of cruelty to companion animals after a dog named Charlie a 10 month old husky collie mix was found in a Baldwin Avenue garbage can with an extension cord around its neck. Prosecutors and humane officers described severe injuries including a cracked skull and say Charlie is recovering and could be adopted soon. Craige allegedly said he threw the dog in the garbage believing it was dead or to kill it after an alleged hit by a car.
