Three Judges Hear Ohio Minimum Wage Case In Columbus

A three judge federal court in Columbus opened hearings on Olie’s minimum wage law protecting about 15 000 women and minor workers. Agnes Dickinson for Marguerite Walker and Kathryn Dakin sought a restraining order to stop enforcement, arguing the law violates freedom of contract, citing dueling supreme court decisions on wage laws. The state urged dismissal for lack of federal jurisdiction while vowing to uphold enforcement unless restrained. Ora B. Chapman pressed to keep wages in dry cleaning and laundry, aiming for a directory order in July to extend protections to 45 000 more workers in hotels and restaurants. Some people can tell the exact day to the hour they will die the judge tells them.
