Time Of Service Important In Roof Shingle Choice
A guide for homeowners using FHA funds advises choosing edge grained wood shingles for permanent roofs. Longer, 16 or 18 inch shingles are preferred, with five shingles butt ends totaling two inches thick. Edge or vertical grain resists weather, reduces fire risk, insulates better, and lasts longer than flat grained shingles.

Paint and Millwork Hold The Key To A Fine House
A house is judged by its paint and millwork more than framing or wiring. Avoid cutting paint coats or millwork quality to save costs. Agree on wood grades and joinery, number of coats, and finish now to prevent costly, unsalvageable repairs later. Consider adding features like built in casework later, not cheaping on core surfaces.
