Premature dynamite blast kills youth at cement plant
In El Paso Texas a premature explosion at the Southwestern Portland Cement Company quarry killed 17 year old Stephen Sparks, son of the plant superintendent, and injured 17 others as 20,000 pounds of dynamite and 100,000 tons of rock and earth toppled spectators. Police and firefighters aided in rescue as rocks rained down and shovels moved debris. The blast was set to occur the next day to loosen limestone for cement.

Washington June 26 The navy department moves to begin immediate construction of the 24 ship program under the 1936 navy budget. Sealed bids for construction of 13 warships to be built in private yards will be opened at the navy department at noon Aug 7. Indictments Return from Grand Jury Session
