Change in weather needed to cool Colorado wildfire
Crews defending homes, a ski area, and roads in southwest Colorado hoped for cooler weather to enable a strategic attack on the West Fork Fire. The 117 square mile blaze, fueled by beetle kill and strong winds, may burn for months with summer monsoon rains needed for real gains. Over 900 firefighters are on scene, with more aircraft en route, and evacuations have begun in South Fork and nearby areas. No structures were confirmed lost as of Monday.
