North Korea Threatens Nuclear Test Amid Freeze Talks
North Korea warned the United States it would test a weapon unless Washington accepts a freeze on its atomic program. In Beijing, Vice Foreign Minister Kim Gye Gwan spoke with U S Assistant Secretary James A Kelly as a situation conference sought a path to dismantle Pyongyang's weapons program. The United States pressed for complete verifiable disarmament while Kyodo cited Pyongyang seeking 2,000 megawatts of energy aid in exchange for a freeze.

Nablus encircled as troops search city for militants
Dozens of Israeli soldiers sealed the Old City of Nablus with barbed wire and cement blocks as house by house searches began in one of the largest operations in months. Two Palestinians wounded. a belt with 44 pounds of explosives was detonated and a roadside bomb was set off. Mayor Aloul said doors were blown open during the operation and residents were being questioned. The city has long been labeled a hornet's nest amid ongoing violence.
