Survival relies on community support for hearing impaired services
In Elyria the Hearing Impaired Services of Lorain County remains barely afloat a year after losing most funds. A task force discussed survival options as staff layoffs linger and 200 to 400 clients await job placement and services. Photographs show Mary Earley and Kathy Ferberdino describing workload and funding gaps. The center shifted to small offices at the Center for the Visually Impaired and volunteers or fundraisers are needed to keep interpretive services going. The group plans next month meetings and explores Leadership Lorain County as a funding driver.
