Baldwin Wallace students run immersive SMART program for Akron kids
Fifteen Baldwin Wallace University student teachers hosted 50 to 60 underprivileged Akron youth in a four day, commune like setup at a Parma church. The SMART program Shaping Music and Reading Together uses music to boost third and fourth graders reading speed. After one week measurements show an average gain of 33 words per minute, with 12 more after the next summer. Caithams leads the effort and notes ongoing improvements amid growing participation.

Veterans cemetery headstone refurbishment gains $800K grant
Thousands of headstones at the Ohio Veterans Home cemetery in Sandusky are being refurbished with nearly 800000 from the U S Department of Veterans Affairs. The Sandusky facility is reportedly the first veterans home to receive such a grant. Avatara Services, a veteran owned firm from North Carolina, won the bid to perform the work and the project will extend into August.
