Clintwood Virginia names a woman as mayor and fills all five council seats marking a feminine revolution in local government. Outgoing mayor Curtis Anderson praises the women’s ability to commit time and lead a progressive mining town.
The Clintwood Women's Club drove a political upset electing Minnie C. Miller mayor by a wide margin and securing five council seats. Voters also approved a $2,000,000 water bond to expand the town water system. The women spotlight cleaner streets and new development as the era begins.
A drinking detector called a drunkometer is installed on the San Francisco Bay Bridge to test drivers suspected of intoxication. Suspects blow into a balloon and air passes through the device to measure blood alcohol. A reading over .15 percent, about six ounces of whiskey or six bottles of beer, means unfit to drive.
An all male concert will be held Friday evening June 25 at 8 o clock in the Wellington school auditorium. Ten male quartets led by Steel Blenders from Lorain, plus a 50 voice male chorus directed by Charles Willard and Mike Offineer will perform with Solovox accompaniment. Syd Lynn of the Steel Blenders will emcee. Robert O Brumfield of Wellington chairs the event.
