Voyage on the Mississippi and a Stolen Trunk
The narrator recounts a trip by river where two shirts and cuffs vanish from a trunk left with a post office. He describes Hunt's Landing, a wood chopper named Andrew Nesbit who helps him, a geese chase that ends badly as the shallow island swallows the narrator’s footing, and Nesbit’s noisy swearing. The tale ends with their escape from the sinking bank and a continuation promised.
