A 911 call reports youths trapped in floodwaters under Pitts Road by the Black River tributary. Wellington Fire District divers rescue 17 year old Chet Aden and 16 year old Ashley Jordan, with CPR and rapid boat evacuation beginning and ending by 2:31 p.m.
Allan “Buz” Anderson, a 15 year swift water rescue diver, died after CPR efforts that exceeded an hour. Wellington crews pulled him from floodwaters near Pitts Road where 17 year old Chet Aden and 16 year old Ashley Jordan were swept toward trees while attempting to reach safety. Anderson was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. cause of death not released by the Cuyahoga County coroner as of late Thursday.
Emergency crews work to pull stranded teens to safety and assist a fellow rescuer at the scene. The chroniclet.com report notes coordinated response and ongoing efforts to stabilize all involved.
Allan Buz Anderson, 47, a Wellington Fire Department swift water rescue technician and diver, died Thursday afternoon while attempting to reach two teenagers clinging to a tree in a swollen Black River tributary. His second entry into the water failed when the current swept away the boat and he was pulled from the river. The department later contacted Findley State Park for a powerboat to assist.
Wellington park ranger David Johnston rescued Chet Aden and Ashley Jordan from a swollen Black River tributary after their car was swept away. He used Findley State Park’s open-bow boat, fought strong currents and strangling limbs to reach the teens and pull them to safety.
A joint force of 175 officers from nine departments raided and arrested 26 suspects across Lorain County in a 12 month Operation Sand Trap. Leaders named include Michael Lewis Michael J Lopez and Tyrone Cervenak with charges ranging from marijuana possession to cocaine trafficking.
