Waco trial centers on tear gas orders during siege
Federal agents diverged from Janet Reno's plan using tank breaches less than five hours into the 1993 tear gas operation at the Branch Davidian compound. Retired FBI officials testified the tank use appeared inconsistent with the approved strategy. The nine consolidated wrongful death suits accuse the government of negligence and question who started the fire as David Koresh and about 80 followers died.

Wildfires in Colorado contained, official says
Fires that burned 21,000 acres in Colorado foothills near Denver were close to controlled Thursday as crews monitored hot spots. Firefighters remained on standby in Grand Junction Pueblo and Durango, with 39 of 63 counties under fire restrictions amid dry conditions. The Denver area fire scorched about 10,800 acres, 51 homes, and a sawmill, while another east of Rocky Mountain National Park burned 10,600 acres and 22 structures. Both blazes were contained though not yet controlled, officials said. The fires started June 12 and likely began from a campfire and possibly a lightning strike.
