Use of Woods for Source of Repair Materials Advised

Farm forester Wiesehuegel of Ohio State University urges farmers to manage farm woods as a direct source of repair materials and cash crops. He notes pine and softwoods cost more abroad, while state-grown wood like pine, green oak, and chestnut offer savings, and materials from one's own woodlot can boost earnings. Dead and diseased trees can be fuel or lumber, and openings can be filled with seedbeds of ash and walnut for farm use, turning neglected woodlands into value.
