The 43rd annual American Federation of Labor convention will be held in Portland Oregon in October 1923 after bids were reviewed from Houston Texas and Portland. Portland received 26174 votes to 4342 for Houston. Two West Virginia Striking Miners Die in Car Attack

Sailor Friedman Convicted of Murder in Chicago
William Sailor Friedman a lightweight pugilist was found guilty of murder in Chicago and sentenced to fourteen years in Joliet prison for the slaying of Abe Rubin shot in a West Side Saloon two months earlier.
