Lorain marks centennial of deadliest Ohio tornado on June 28
Lorain plans a memorial program at noon at Sunset Cafe Lakeview Park with Lorain Historical Society and Lorain County Metro Parks to honor 72 lives lost during the 1924 tornado. A commemorative pictorial postmark and watercolor cover by Lorain High School student Alexandra Hrivocec will be sold for 4 dollars, with mail service options through July 27 at the main post office. The note also recalls postcard collecting by local photographers, early postmarks and letters describing Lorain’s devastation and recovery, plus a July 12 stamp club meeting at Harvest Christian Church in Elyria.
