The Bikeriders film captures Chicago Outlaws era revival
Photojournalist Danny Lyon documented the Outlaws in mid 1960s Chicago for The Bikeriders, a 1968 book that inspired Jeff Nichols film. Starring Tom Hardy Austin Butler Norman Reedus and others, the drama centers on Benny Kathy and Johnny with Kathy as narrator and Lyon’s recreated photographs shaping a moody chaotic portrait of the Vandals and their brutal glamour. The film blends style and myth while delivering strong performances though the central arc remains uneven with Benny underwritten despite Butler’s presence.
