Ron Reed, a 6 foot 6 righthander with a pennant cold start, joined the Phillies bullpen in a tense moment against Cincinnati. He entered in relief with bases loaded and two outs in the sixth, fanned Perez and Bench, then retired Griffey, then pitched two scoreless frames before Gene Garber finished the win.
