Oberlin Defines Intoxicating Liquor In 3.2 Beer Rule
Oberlin City Council considers a broad definition of intoxicating liquor. The ordinance, urged by City Solicitor Grover L. Severs, asserts any beverage above 3.2 alcohol content could be deemed intoxicating. Critics, including Councilman William P. Davis, call the definition absurd. The measure passed first reading, with math faculty member Wade Ellis estimating three 3.2 beers equal a shot of scotch.

A 15 cent per 100 cubic feet rate was proposed if water is unused and distribution costs borne by the club, but no untreated-water rate exists. Council seeks a Public Utilities Commission plan for a raw water rate schedule and potential land-use safeguards as plans for relocating the course unfold.
